Details: This truly spectacular and beautiful French Art Nouveau slide locket features very finely executed repoussé work. A sweet doe's head sits centrally, surrounded by a frame of oak leaves and acorn motifs. The locket is framed by halo of rose cut diamonds set in platinum with milgrain detail. It opens by sliding the top portion to the side with a sweeping motion.
Repoussé is the art of decorating metals by lightly and carefully hammering the design into the gold from the reverse side. The doe is symbolic of gentleness and unconditional love, the oak leaf a symbol of strength and stability and the acorns a symbol of new beginnings. This is a highly collectable locket and the animal motif pieces are rare and desirable.
Measurements: The locket is just over 1 3/4" tall including bale by 1 3/8" in diameter.
Origins: French, c. 1880.
